Globalization will continue to be a powerful vector of
worldwide change. We need better understanding of how education will be transformed by globalization and how it, in turn, can shape
and manage the course or courses of globalization... This volume is dedicated to that vision.
The scientific breakthroughs, demographic transformations, globally linked economies, and breathtakingly rapid technology, communication, and media
innovations of the late 20th century have engendered the need for new competencies, skills and sensibilities. Yet, most schools still employ
practices that were designed to address challenges of the previous century leaving youth unprepared to live in a globally linked society or enter
the globally competitive workplace.
Youth growing up today will need to collaborate with others around the world from an array of religious,
linguistic, ethic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. Education must redouble its efforst to bridge culture schisms and promote exchanges and
understanding.
